Adaptive Case Management
Current developments in the ECM space show three things: support for task based solutions, for departmental document storage and for the Knowledge Worker. This Knowledge Worker needs more than a BPM solution. His power lies in applying knowledge to problems in order to reach a defined goal. New solutions that support this are Adaptive (or Advanced) Case Management solutions. Offered e.g. by specialist players like ISIS Papyrus.
EMC Documentum xCP
Recent developments turned Documentum from a coding effort into a configuration solution. For this, EMC introduced the xCP stack. Today at version 1.6 on top of Documentum 6.7. A good offering for creating task-oriented as well as case-oriented solutions. For core document management, WebTop still suits. For the average end-user a low profile document management environment needs the help from Microsoft.
Microsoft SharePoint
During the last few years, the presence of SharePoint in an enterprise content management setting has become omni present. Since there is a natural adoption of SharePoint by end users, the leading ECM vendors all have their integrations and repositioned their repositories as an enterprise back-end. An are where Microsoft still needs products like EMC Documentum.
